These pictures were made during an art history class about Italian futurism and Russian avant-garde art at the Wackers Academie in Amsterdam. Since this class was held on Women’s day, 8 March 2022, it was a perfect opportunity for me to bring Popova’s Spatial Force Constructions to the fore.
Students and lecturer are shocked by the Russian war in the Ukraine and we sincerily hope it will soon end. We discussed many things related to war and peace, whilst absorbing the key message of Malevich’ and Popova’s art. It has a universal identity, beyond any political, religious and national one.
